About:

Through the centuries, people have joined around tables to break bread. That idea of a third place, outside of work and home, stresses that we are all part of an experience bigger than ourselves. Enjoy our seasonal  patio space for al fresco dining. Gather in the warm spaces designed for private events and parties. Grab your favorite table and dig in.

For over a decade, Spacca Napoli has made pizza faithful to the authentic Neapolitan style. Dough is tended daily as a blend of love and craft and baked in an oven built by third and fourth- generation artisans from Napoli. Ingredients are carefully sourced from trusted vendors, many of which are unavailable anywhere else in Chicago. Wines and music are selected to create just the right experience and mood.

That Neapolitan style is about more than what you’re eating. It’s about a way of life. An abundant Italy. The spirited markets, robust street scene, enticing aromas and tastes that transport you to the heart of Naples. Spacca Napoli preserves and elevates hearty, rustic dishes in a beautiful space, while showcasing the essence of our family’s Italian experience.

Each morning, Jon Goldsmith walks the four blocks from home to Spacca Napoli. As he greets the day, he greets the dough. A certified pizzaiuolo, Jon embraces being part of the guild, the lifelong process of training for an artisan who lives in service of making pizza. A communicator and facilitator, food and community are at the heart of his work. Regular travels to Italy allow him to serve as a translator of his experiences abroad, and he brings that deep knowledge and passion to every dish.

Ginny Sykes, Jon’s partner in life and food, works from her studio upstairs. Her hand can be seen in the art and soul of the restaurant. Beyond her own works, she believes Spacca Napoli is a place to show and support art and culture. Lithographs and crafts, furniture and material culture, Spacca Napoli brings the spirit of Italy into everything they do—people, relationships and an Italian-infused cultural exchange to Chicago.
